Introduction

 
Greetings earthlings!!!  My name is Rupert and I am from the planet Ruperanian.  I would like to come to your planet to live.  I need to enlist the services of your travel agency to help me find the neatest place to live! 
Everyone has some knowledge about the biomes of our world.  Please tell me about your ....what are they called....biomes?  Then find the biome that  is the best for me!!!

Questions and the Task

As travel agents you will each research a biome gathering information from the various websites provided below. After completing your research, you will discuss the four biomes and vote to select the best biome for my people.  Then you will create a brochure about the biome outlining it's special qualities.  This will be presented to a panel of Rupertanians for final approval.

Process

You will work in groups of four to create a brochure for Rupert.  Each member of the group will choose a biome to research.  Use the provided links to navigate websites that provide information on that particular biome.

Part 1:  View the Video Clip with your group:  Ecosystems

Part 2:  You will be divided into groups of four.  Once you have gathered in your groups, you will pick one of the following biomes out of a hat in which you will become an expert. You must print the outline provided to complete your research.  Then write a one paragraph summary stating why your biome should be selected.

Group Work

       1.  Each person should share their paragraphs with the group. 
       2.  Discuss the four biomes and select one to research for the brochure.
       3.  Brochure
             a.  Click here to see the guidelines for the travel brochure. 
             b.  Design a front cover featuring an animal from your biome.
             c.  Each student should choose one of the four sections to complete
                 on a separate piece of paper.  Then you will glue that to the
                 final brochure.
             d. Put your names on the 6th section of the brochure.
        4.  Present your brochure to the class.  Each student should 
            present their own work.

Evaluation

Your grade will be formulated based on scores on the outline you completed, the paragraph presented to your group, the page you create for your travel brochure, and your group assessment.  Please click here to view the criteria on which your individual grade will be based.  You will also receive a group grade.  Click Here to view the criteria for your group grade.

Each of these grades will be averaged in your final grade as a test grade.
