Neil Armstrong a John Glenn are both famouse American Astronuats and both from Ohio. Your objective is to train to be an astronaut and then to take a voyage to and explore another planet in our solar system. In part I you will train to be an astronaut. In part II you will plan your mission. In part III you will take that mission and report back your findings. Finally in part IV you will evaluate your mission deciding whether or not is was successful and worthwhile.

Part I Astronaut Training

After one is chosen to be an astronaut one must spend many hours, days, months and yes-even years to prepare to live and work in space. In this section you will discover the many facets of astronaut training. You will keep a log and a checklist of your training. You may take pictures (mac user may use pictify) of the training to include in the log. You will present your experiences in a presentation of hyperstudio, PowerPoint or some other presentation mode.(links)

Part II Planning Mission

In this part you and your team will decide its destination and plan its mission. You must decide and justify your decision to spend the billions of taxpayer dollars and express this in a one paragraph statement that will be included in part II of your presentation. How have we benefited from 40 years of manned space exploration? Has space technology been applied here on earth? Is there a benefit for research solely for knowledge? If you are in a group you must divide the work and assign jobs. (links)
