Introduction

You have just gotten your first job as a historic researcher. Your first assignment is to review a group of historical documents as well as discuss various symbols of the United States to be included in the latest edition of a history book. You will also become a cartographer, identifying and locating places within Ohio, as well as studying directional coordinates.

Process

Using the internet sources provided, you will need to answer the questions asked in the TASK portion of the Webquest. Every source contains vital information in your quest for the correct answer. Each group of questions listed in the Task section of the Webquest (Roman numerals I, II, and III) contains a worksheet. The student will need to print out the individual worksheet for each Roman Numeral.

Conclusion

The knowledge gained in this Webquest will further enhance the learning of the student in the areas of Citizenship and Reading. The student will be better prepared to pass the Ohio Proficiency Test.

Evaluation

The student will be evaluated based on the accuracy of the assignment. The determination of total points is the individual decision of the instructor.

This Webquest can also be made into a group project, simply by creating groups of three students. Each student is responsible for answering one Roman Numeral grouping and sharing their answers with other members within their group. The ability to communicate with others in the group (teamwork) could also be included in the final evaluation.

Time frame for this webquest will vary based on the following criteria:
1. Number of students working on project (individual vs. group work)
2. Grade level of students
3. Ability to gather important information from webpages (scanning for information)
4. Technological knowledge (familiarity with computers and the Internet)
